Back to the prehistory
Archaeology is not "Indiana Jones" or just old fossils. We have implemented the media library of the State Museum of Prehistory Halle (Saale).
The Saxony-Anhalt State Museum of Prehistory in Halle (Saale) is one of the most important archaeological museums in Central Europe and is home to world-famous exhibits such as the Nebra Sky Disk.
In the course of the coronavirus pandemic, the museum has significantly expanded its online film offering and produced over 200 videos that provide insights into exhibits, exhibition tours and the work behind the scenes.
This audiovisual treasure is now to be presented appropriately. The museum's own website is not structurally suitable for this and, in addition to data protection reasons, a subsite for the films was put out to tender. We were able to win this in a public tender.
Concept
Our aim for the media library was to make the informative and entertaining film clips accessible in a way that users are used to from streaming portals. A sensible clustering of the content was particularly important here. Editorially defined series are used to compile videos and audio clips on (special) exhibitions or key topics and play them conveniently in playlists.
With additional content such as descriptive texts, transcripts or even audio versions of films, the presentation of videos on their own detailed pages enables a high-quality offering.
Design
Visually, the presentation is based on the scenography of the museum. The museum in Halle (Saale) staged its exhibits with the interplay between darkness and light, making even small archaeological finds appear radiant. Anyone who has ever experienced the display of the Nebra Sky Disk live will be able to experience this particularly well.
Accordingly, black and golden yellow are the most present colors, both in the museum itself and in the print publications as well as on the website.
Technology
The media library was technically built with CMS Strapi, which manages the data structure with all content and has a connected VUE.JS/NUXT.JS framework as the frontend. This setup is "headless", i.e. the backend and frontend work independently of each other. This gave us the flexibility to make subsequent adjustments to the frontend or even to play out the content in completely different environments.
Fancy a trip into the past? We can only recommend the media library of the Landesmuseum Halle.
