For against tuberculosis
The DZK is committed to the detection, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis. We have restructured the digital activities and information for all target groups - relaunch!
The German Central Committee against Tuberculosis (DZK) is an important institution. For decades, it has been pooling expertise, promoting research and informing experts and the public about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. The central point of contact for this was and is the website www.dzk-tuberkulose.de.
From Wordpress to Webflow and thus to the target groups
The old, Wordpress-based website no longer met the requirements for modern user guidance, responsive design and accessibility. Webflow was the answer and the result was a makeover. The aim was to create an information-centered and user-friendly platform that would provide the diverse target groups - from doctors and researchers to patients and relatives, authorities and the interested public - with quick and targeted access to relevant information. At the same time, the technical basis was to be renewed in order to ensure simple and efficient content maintenance and guarantee the future viability of the site.
Information architecture and usability
The challenge was to structure the growing wealth of specialist information, guidelines, publications and event information in such a way that it could be understood and found by both experts and laypersons.
A central component of the relaunch project was therefore the redesign of the information architecture and navigation. In close coordination with the DZK, we analyzed the existing content and the needs of the various user groups. A clear FAQ section and improved search function also help users to find specific information quickly.
(Not) a matter of opinion
Another focus was on responsive design and accessibility. The new website automatically adapts to all screen sizes, from desktop monitors to tablets and smartphones. This is essential as more and more users are accessing information on the move, especially in the medical field. At the same time, great importance was attached to compliance with the guidelines for accessible web content (BITV/WCAG). Clear contrasts, a logical structure for screen readers and scalable fonts ensure that the important information on combating tuberculosis is accessible to as many people as possible. The modern, minimalist design supports clarity and directs the focus to the content without distracting from the seriousness and scientific basis of the DZK.
Achievements
A few days after the launch, it was World Tuberculosis Day. This was immediately noticeable in the number of hits - or so we thought. In reality, the high continued in the weeks that followed. Compared to the last measurements, the average increase was almost 500%! The basis for this was of course an extreme improvement in the search engine ranking. This was also accompanied by an increase in visibility in the AI tools and thus an enormous gain in reputation.
The site also scores well in other areas, achieving - not for das erste with sites from our company - four full scores (100) in the Google Lighthouse test - a kind of basic "Internet TÜV" built into Chrome. Great.
Eye level and other tasks
Another special feature was the really great and trusting collaboration between the two teams. We learned a lot about the needs of the specialist audience and the general public and probably did quite well in drawing the right conclusions during implementation.
With the revision of ExplainTB, a second project was added before the relaunch. The knowledge database in more than 30 languages was once a pure data source for the app of the same name, which has since been discontinued. We made the content suitable for the web, polished it a little on and under the hood and thus helped to make the valuable content accessible to all interested parties.
Further sub-projects will follow. We are looking forward to it. Dress warmly, dear bacteria!
