Statamic - All the advantages of the modern flat-file CMS
If you are planning a website relaunch and need to select a CMS, you should focus on maximum future viability. That's why we are increasingly opting for Statamic. We provide all the reasons and arguments here.
"Websites are not a project. They are a process."
This truth is demonstrated time and again in our projects. So much changes in the lifetime of a website. New content and content formats are constantly being added. And who can predict what technological or design standards will apply in a few years' time? So it's better to stay flexible.
"Statamic" follows a consistent headless approach: it only serves as a backend that can deliver content to any digital channel. This means: more stability, more speed and more room for ideas that are still emerging.
Advantage 1: Future viability
Future-proof means being able to decide things freely when the time comes. This is exactly what Statamic makes possible. It is the one place for all content that is used today on the new website, tomorrow in the app, audio guide, terminal, landing pages, etc. And with the next relaunch, only the front end is redeveloped, the CMS remains untouched.
Statamic is future-proof because:
Extensible: The API enables simple integration with other systems. A large number of plug-ins are available for expansion.
Customizable: The interface is completely reprogrammable and can be individualized.
SEO: Fast loading times and clear source code thanks to server-side rendering. Meta tags, alt texts and vanity URLs can be easily maintained with integrated functions. There is also a snippet preview and fields for open graph tags for social media.
Efficient: data can be migrated with scripts. Editors can easily implement landing pages and microsites using the modular principle.
Established: Statamic has been used by users such as Disney, Nike, Warner Bros, ESPN and Spiegel Online since 2012.
Statamic is a headless CMS. The backend and frontend are separate, which has many advantages: stability, scalability, speed, reliability, ease of maintenance and greater flexibility in terms of future website developments. Various websites, apps, info screens, terminals and other applications can be operated from one CMS. This is not possible with traditional CMS solutions.
Advantage 2: Reliability
With the open source CMS Statamic, we show what "reliability by design" means:
Robust & tested: Statamic is based on Laravel, the largest PHP framework with a huge and active community. Laravel is known for its reliability and robust security mechanisms. Technical errors and security vulnerabilities are fixed with weekly updates.
Stable & fast: The headless architecture reduces the server load per se, resulting in particularly stable systems. Thanks to the flat-file approach, integrated caching system and image optimization as well as server-side rendering, websites load super fast. Even with a high number of users.
Secure & fail-safe: The separation of front and back end reduces the attack surface compared to classic CMS. If there are problems in the CMS, the website remains accessible.
Easy maintenance: separate updates and maintenance work without affecting the entire system. We work with a ticket system to operate the site, have a direct line to Statamic support and close security gaps immediately via our update pipeline.
Certified & high-performance: We set up the CMS in a development environment and a live environment via a Docker setup. A web server instance is operated by our hosting partner in a secure data center in Berlin according to Tier IV standard, which has been certified according to ISO 27001.
In addition to the Statamic backend, we use Nuxt.js as a frontend. Its great advantage is the so-called server side rendering, whereby the pages are already rendered and sent to the client as clean, search engine-friendly code. This means that a large part of the loading process is outsourced to the server, which enables extremely fast loading times.
Advantage 3: Comfort of use and conceptual suitability
Statamic's user-friendliness is outstanding: versioning, copy-paste, bulk editing, drag & drop asset upload - the system has it all.
Statamic is multi-site capable, so several websites can be operated from one system. The structured dashboard and navigation provide a quick overview. Entire pages are created using the modular building block system. Simple and intuitive for editors.
Editors are said to have had tears in their eyes when they were allowed to work with Statamic for the first time. This is important because: The more fun maintenance is, the better the website will be.
Conclusion
The arguments are obvious, and so Statamic is no longer an insider tip, even if it is still far from being one of the top 3 content management systems. But that can happen quickly ... in any case, we firmly believe in the future of Statamic.
